for the love of gadgets

I love Sam, I really do! He’s amazing, one of those guys who can get you out of a pinch and I feel very safe with him. So, none of the following is meant to discount the value of his love and care, or of my deep affection and admiration toward him.

He has this passion for cell phones, though, that rivals his love for me, I swear!!

Last year when Zara was born he had gotten a new cell phone the day before and I’m pretty sure that he seemed more excited about that then he did about Zara. For months , after that he was researching the best hands free set that his phone was compatible with, I won’t tell you how many sets we returned for one reason or another.

He put much effort into “training” his phone and hands free set to respond to his voice and dial the numbers when he said the name of the person who he wanted to call. It never worked to his satisfaction and he dreamed of the day when he could upgrade his phone to one that was blue tooth enabled.

He is the one person I know who actually look forward to cell phone sales people striking up conversations with him on the rare occasion that he goes to the mall. We’ve had so many cell phone advertisement papers that he’s brought home for careful consideration, just in case there was a better deal out there. Actually, if you need something researched and no stone unturned ask Sam to do your research.

Sam is the one person in our home that you could call and there was actually a 99% chance that he would answer. If you were an unlucky caller and got his answering machine you were not a happy person (Hello, Hello, speak louder, (pause) I can’t hear you! Actually, why don’t you just leave a message). He’ll even call you some time just to make sure you have your phone on. He’s never let his phone battery die. Course, he is a very diligent kind of guy.

This morning he woke up at 5:00am, no less, to get this steal of a deal on a pay as you go cell phone. We really did need them and I’m thankful to his devotion to providing us with all the technology we need to be a happily functional family, and then some. When we got home after a long day out with the kids, he couldn’t wait to get to know his phones better.

He’s spent about 2 hours activating the phones, selecting the right ring, and just preparing the phones for their mission serving us. I’m told he still has a lot of work ahead of him in readying these phones, such as logging in all the phone numbers, etc.

Oh, to be a cell phone!

My big question…
