granola that loves you
Wednesday, June 28th, 2006Ove the last five years I have had to work off 40+lb three times, and it is hard work. Here is one of my favorite recipies for granola. It is very low fat and basically sugar free, but pretty yummy too. PTL!
It is not a percise recipie, you can be pretty creative with it and use what you have available.
oats 5c
coconut 2c (optional)
applesauce 1-1/2c
vanilla 2-3 tbsp
cinnamon
salt
walnuts 1-2c (optional)
rasins 1-2c (optional)
Mix the vanilla and applesauce. Sprinkle some salt on the oats, mix in the coconut. Add the applesauce and mix thouroughly. Bake at 350 for about an hour, stirring regularly and breaking up the lumps. Remove from oven and stir in the nuts and rasins.
Nuts are better for you raw, that’s why I add them after baking, and rasins always burn. I’ve also used dates in place of applesause, boiling them to make a paste and coating the oats with that. It’s pretty good. I’ve also used juice concentrates, and I imagine you could use figs, pears and other fruits.
I’ve also added sesame seeds, wheat germ, barley, bran and other healthy things to the oat mixture when I’ve had them available.
Enjoy!
